A dramatic rescue operation involving multiple agencies saved two people after their truck overturned in a canal in western Palm Beach County. The incident occurred on a dirt road approximately five miles west of U.S. 27, near the border with Broward County.
According to officials, the pickup truck flipped upside down, trapping one person inside the vehicle and pinning the other underneath as the truck began to sink into the muddy canal. Responders from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), County Fire Rescue, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Fish and Wildlife, and the Palm Beach Health Care District were immediately dispatched to the scene.
A PBSO helicopter was deployed to transport Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and specialized equipment to the remote location. Described as a ‘very technical extrication,’ the rescue required the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved. Firefighters worked to free the victims from the wreckage.
Both individuals were eventually freed and airlifted to a trauma center, according to rescue personnel.
