GAC Motor unveiled its bold Pickup 01 concept at the Shanghai Auto Show (Auto Shanghai 2025), drawing inspiration from two of America’s most striking designs: the Tesla Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV Pickup. The concept boasts a ‘sci-tech aesthetic’ with a futuristic appearance that incorporates elements from existing vehicles.
Design and Features
The dual-cab electric pickup features simple, silver body panels contrasted with blocky, black-finished wheel arches, giving it a similar look to the Cybertruck. The slit-like headlights joined by a light bar at the front are clearly inspired by the Hummer EV design, while the lower front bumper with an integrated skid plate also echoes the GMC’s design.

Technology and Platform
GAC developed the Pickup 01 using its new GAIA (GAC Adaptive Intelligent Architecture) platform, which features adjustable suspension and can accommodate various powertrains designed for urban, off-road, and towing situations. The company hints at potential production, stating that the concept is the first vehicle developed under a strategy to transform GAC Commercial Vehicles’ utilitarian vehicles into premium products with the latest technology.
The concept also introduces GAC’s X-SouL Safety Shield, a suite of electronic driver-assist features. Additional details, including the interior design, will be revealed later. GAC Commercial Vehicles, the division behind the Pickup 01, plans to expand into markets beyond China, starting with Australia, Chile, and Saudi Arabia this year.
Future Prospects
While it’s too soon to gauge the brand’s success, a potential entry into European markets could follow if GAC finds success in these initial expansion targets. However, due to steep tariffs on Chinese imports, the likelihood of GAC entering the U.S. market remains low.
