Geely EX5 Makes a Splash in Australia with Aggressive Pricing
Geely Australia has launched the 2025 EX5 electric SUV, making a bold statement in the market with a substantial price reduction. The EX5 significantly undercuts competitors, including the Tesla Model Y and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, positioning itself as a top value in the Australian electric vehicle landscape.
Previously estimated to start around $49,000 before on-road costs, the EX5’s price was initially revealed to be $43,490. However, at the Sydney launch event, Geely slashed an additional $2500, bringing the starting price down to a remarkable $40,990.
This aggressive pricing immediately places the EX5 as the most affordable all-electric mid-size SUV in Australia. It’s priced lower than even its Chinese competitors, such as the Leapmotor C10 (from $45,888) and the BYD Sealion 7 (from $54,990).
The Geely EX5’s competitive pricing effectively undercuts the most popular vehicle in Australia, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (from $42,260).
This aggressive pricing also positions the EX5 well below the Tesla Model Y, which starts at $63,400. The EX5 is available in two grades: Complete and Inspire. The Complete grade is priced at $40,990, while the Inspire is priced at $44,990.
With on-road costs, the EX5 Complete can be purchased for as low as $42,707, and the Inspire for $46,707 in the Australian Capital Territory, although these prices may vary depending on the state of purchase.
Furthermore, Geely is backing the EX5 with an impressive warranty, including a seven-year/unlimited kilometer vehicle warranty, an eight-year/unlimited-kilometer high-voltage battery assurance, and roadside assistance for up to seven years.
Special Launch Promotion and Features
To further entice early buyers, Geely is running a promotion through the end of April. Early adopters will receive a year of complimentary public charging, three years of servicing, premium paint, and a home charger.
The EX5 models sold in Australia are tailored for local conditions, with suspension systems and advanced safety technologies extensively tested and calibrated. Both EX5 variants utilize a 60.22kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a WLTP-tested driving range of 430km for the Complete and 410km for the Inspire.
The EX5 boasts 100kW DC fast-charging capability, allowing it to charge from 30 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes, according to Geely. It also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices.
Equipped with a single electric motor driving the front wheels, the EX5 delivers 160kW and 320Nm of torque. Its physical dimensions are similar to the Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4.
Standard equipment includes a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a surround-view monitor, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and LED headlights.
First customer deliveries are expected this month, marking the first phase of Geely’s plan to establish itself in the Australian market and move into the Top 10 sales positions, according to local CEO Lei Li.
