Geely’s Australia-bound electric van to feature luxury car features

Farizon, the commercial vehicle division of Chinese automotive giant Geely, has unveiled further details regarding its upcoming electric van lineup scheduled to launch in Australia this year. The SuperVan cargo hauler, also known as the SV, will be the flagship model for the brand’s introduction. The H9E trucks will also be featured.

While the vans are set to make their public debut in Sydney next weekend, Farizon is planning an official launch in Melbourne next month. Farizon had initially received approval for three wheelbase sizes for the SuperVan, they have decided to launch with three electric vans.

The Australian range will offer one short-wheelbase (SWB) and two long-wheelbase (LWB) SuperVans, with low- (SWB and LWB) and high-roof (LWB only) configurations.

Each van will have an 83kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which supplies power to a 170kW and 336Nm electric motor driving the front wheels. Preliminary information claims the low-roof SuperVan possesses a driving range of 376km based on the WLTP test cycle. The SuperVan is also the first electric van in the Australian market offering vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, letting owners use the onboard battery to power tools.

Additional features comprise of “30 different safety features”, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, a surround-view camera, 270-degree barn doors, and both heated and ventilated seats. While heated seats are increasingly common in vans, ventilated seats are quite unusual for commercial vehicles.

Previous details have indicated the SuperVan will be available with or without windows on its sliding side doors. All versions of the electric van will come equipped with 16-inch wheels.

While pricing is pending, given the SuperVan’s dimensions are comparable to the LDV eDeliver 7, which has similar battery capacity and is available in short- and long-wheelbase forms, it is possible Farizon might price its electric van around the $60,000 to $70,000 range.

The mid-sized electric van segment in Australia currently includes the eDeliver 7, the Peugeot E-Expert, the Mercedes-Benz eVito, and the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo. This year, Ford is set to launch the E-Transit Custom, providing another selection for electric van customers in Australia.
