GM Recalls Over 800,000 SUVs and Trucks Due to Engine Failures

General Motors Corporation is recalling more than 800,000 SUVs and pickup trucks due to engine failures nationwide. The recall affects various GM models with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine from 2021 to 2024, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, and others.

Gary Johnson, owner of a 2023 GMC Sierra pickup truck, experienced an engine failure while driving on Highway 95 in Princeton at 65 mph on April 5. “It was scary as hell. I am going to be honest. I am, uh, I am just beside myself,” Johnson said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating the cause of these engine failures across the country. The affected models include:

    • Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
    • Chevrolet Tahoe, Silverado 1500, and Suburban
    • GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL

Johnson is urging other consumers with these vehicles to get them to their dealer as quickly as possible. “It could cause an accident because it could shut down with no notice,” he warned. “Anything could have happened. I guess I am lucky, you know, that I wasn’t trying to pass somebody, with somebody coming towards me.”

Johnson’s truck is currently at a dealership for repairs. His wife, Laura, expressed concern about the safety of the vehicle, saying, “I don’t feel safe driving the truck, quite honestly, not knowing what is going to happen and knowing what happened to him. It frankly does frighten me.”

GM is advising customers who own these makes and models to bring them to the nearest dealer as soon as possible for repairs.
