The incident, which occurred in the early hours, resulted in the closure of the M4 between Junction 4 and Junction 4A, causing major delays for commuters and those heading to the airport.
London Fire Brigade responded to reports of a car fire at approximately 3 a.m., discovering the vehicle fully ablaze inside the tunnel on the east ramp. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but the damage caused significant disruption.

Initial reports incorrectly suggested the vehicle was electric-powered. London Ambulance Service attended the scene, but there were no reported injuries. National Highways issued a warning on social media platform X about the closure and potential delays, urging travelers to allow extra time for their journeys. The road has since been reopened, though congestion around the airport persists.
