A Hepburn Township man is recovering from injuries sustained early Friday morning after his pickup truck plunged into Lycoming Creek, according to Lycoming Regional police.
Matthew Miller, 33, was being treated at UPMC Williamsport following the crash, which occurred around 2:45 a.m. just south of Route 973 East at the Lycoming-Hepburn Township line.
Miller was able to exit the truck on his own and reach the south side of the creek. Lycoming Regional police officers and a Hepburn Township firefighter pulled him from the water. Officers had been dispatched to the area in response to a report of a man screaming along the creek.
Traveling north, Miller’s vehicle left Lycoming Creek Road and struck a guardrail before becoming airborne, traveling approximately 30 yards, and landing in the middle of the creek. It was estimated that Miller traveled 70 to 100 yards from the point he lost control to where the vehicle came to rest.
Since the vehicle did not pose an immediate threat, authorities decided to wait until daylight to remove it. Bressler’s Towing arrived at the scene around 9:30 a.m. and worked for about an hour to recover the truck.
With assistance from a boat, divers from Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company entered the water and attached the necessary hooks and equipment to the truck so it could be safely lifted out of the water.
