Highway 38 Reopened After Car Accident
MITCHELL, S.D. — A car crash on Highway 38 near Mitchell caused the road to be closed for several hours Thursday afternoon. The accident, which resulted in minor injuries to both drivers involved, occurred when a pickup truck pulled into the path of a semi-truck.
According to the Davison County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at approximately 3:06 p.m. A Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, stopped at a stop sign on First Avenue, entered Highway 38 in front of a westbound semi-truck hauling corn. The semi, driven by a 23-year-old male from Alexandria, struck the car trailer being towed by the pickup.
The impact caused the semi to veer off the road and into a ditch. One of the vehicles on the car trailer came loose during the collision. Dmytro Isaikov, 25, of Washington, the driver of the pickup, was cited for failing to yield after the stop sign. Both drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries and did not need further medical attention.
Emergency crews diverted traffic on Highway 38 for several hours while they worked to clear the scene and assess the damage.
