CROWNSVILLE, MD — Interstate 97 has reopened in the Crownsville area after a vehicle fire caused significant delays Friday afternoon. The incident occurred in Anne Arundel County.
Fire officials told 11 News that the fire originated in a van and spread to nearby brush along the highway’s northbound lanes near the Farm Road overpass. The van was fully engulfed by approximately 2:50 p.m., according to officials. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Both northbound lanes and portions of the southbound lanes were closed for several hours while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. Maryland State Police announced that the northbound lanes had reopened around 4:48 p.m.
