India’s electric vehicle (EV) sales experienced a decline in April 2025 compared to the previous month. According to data from the Vahan Dashboard as of May 2, 2025 (excluding Telangana data), total registered EV sales dropped to 1,67,520 units from 2,04,798 units in March 2025.
Category-wise EV Sales Trend
- Electric Two-Wheelers: Sales significantly decreased from 1,31,200 units in March 2025 to 91,819 units in April 2025.
- Electric Four-Wheelers (E4W): Sales slightly decreased from 13,060 units to 12,251 units.
- E3W L5 Passenger: Sales marginally dropped from 13,539 units to 13,128 units.
- E3W L5 Cargo: Sales fell to 2,418 units from 2,701 units.
- E-rickshaw Sales: Increased from 36,091 units to 39,524 units.
- E-cart Sales: Rose from 7,221 units to 7,463 units.

The penetration percentage of EVs in the two-wheeler category decreased from 8.7% in March 2025 to 5.5% in April 2025.

- High-Speed E-2W: TVS Motors, OLA Electric, and Bajaj Auto were the top players.
