Jeep J6 Honcho Concept Sparks Debate
In the latest ‘Ask Nathan’ segment, a passionate Jeep enthusiast made a compelling case for the production of the J6 Honcho concept, a smaller version of the Gladiator pickup truck. The fan, who currently owns a Gladiator Sport, expressed frustration with the larger vehicle’s size making off-road excursions more challenging. “I wished and wished that Jeep would make a smaller version of this,” the fan admitted, stating they would readily trade their current Gladiator for the proposed J6 Honcho.

The J6 Honcho concept gained attention during the 2025 Easter Jeep Safari, where it was showcased as a potential future model. Nathan, the host, acknowledged the vehicle’s appeal but expressed doubts about its production feasibility. He cited concerns about the vehicle’s limited passenger capacity and potential pricing, estimating it could fall between $35,000 to $40,000. “I have a hard time believing that Jeep/Stellantis has the budget to build something that won’t accommodate more than two people,” Nathan explained.
However, Nathan suggested an alternative: Jeep could consider releasing the J6 Honcho as a MOPAR kit, similar to the J8 conversion kit available for the JK four-door Unlimited. The JK-8 pickup conversion kit, priced around $5,500 before labor, has been met with mixed results, with some owners reporting satisfactory experiences while others noted issues with towing and payload capacities.

The discussion took a broader turn when addressing viewer comments regarding electric and hydrogen-powered trucks. Many viewers expressed skepticism about the future of these alternative powertrains, prompting Nathan to reference previous videos addressing these technologies. Nathan emphasized his belief in a diversified approach to technical solutions, stating, “I have never believed in ‘one size fits all’ for any technical solution.” He argued that different regions and applications might benefit from different technologies, rather than a single universal solution.
The debate surrounding the J6 Honcho concept and alternative powertrains highlights the complex considerations facing automotive manufacturers like Jeep. As the industry continues to evolve, consumer feedback and preferences will likely play a crucial role in shaping future product lines and technological investments.
