A South Korean automaker recently shared details about its upcoming electric vehicles, including the Kia EV4, at an event held in Spain. This location highlights the increasingly global nature of the automotive industry. For drivers in the U.S. looking for an entry-level electric vehicle, news from the Kia event is particularly noteworthy.
The Kia EV4, first showcased two years ago, is designed with affordability and accessibility in mind. It represents the automaker’s initial foray into electric sedans. Kia CEO Ho Sung Song stated, “With models like the Kia EV4 and the vision shown in the Kia Concept EV2, we strive to democratize EV ownership, making the benefits of sustainable mobility solutions open to everyone.”
Orders are currently being taken in South Korea for the electric sedan (and a hatchback version in certain markets), with a starting price under $30,000. The standard EV4 model boasts a range of 237 miles, while the long-range version can travel up to 331 miles on a single charge.
The good news for U.S. drivers is that the impressive EV4 is expected to arrive stateside soon. According to Car and Driver, the sedan edition of the EV4 will be available in the U.S. later this year. While the price will be slightly higher than in South Korea, estimates place the starting price around $35,000, while other sources predict it might be under $40,000.
