Kia has started selling its purpose-built PV5 cargo and passenger vans in Europe, targeting commercial customers with competitive pricing and generous specifications. The electric vans are based on Kia’s E-GMP platform and come with a choice of 51.5-kWh and 71.2-kWh batteries.
Key Features of Kia PV5 Vans
The PV5 cargo van is available with a standard 51.5-kWh battery and an optional 71.2-kWh battery, both powering a single axle with an 89.4-kW motor. The long-range version offers up to 247 miles of range, 155 cubic feet of cargo space, and a 1,742-pound payload capacity. The interior features a 12.9-inch touchscreen and a 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster.
Pricing and Specifications
- PV5 Cargo Van:
- Starting at $36,800 with the smaller battery
- Starting at $40,100 with the larger battery
- PV5 Passenger Van:
- Starting at $43,900
- Offers seating for five (seven-seat model coming later)
- Range of up to 249 miles with the larger battery
- Supports 400-volt fast-charging, reaching 80% charge in under 30 minutes
The PV5 passenger van boasts a flat floor for maximum legroom and competitive head- and shoulder-room thanks to its boxy design. While these models are not headed to the US market initially, they will be available in Canada. The lack of competition in the US electric minivan segment, currently led by the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, may be a reason why Kia is focusing on other markets for now.
