Kia PV5: A Rugged Electric Van Set to Challenge the Volkswagen ID. Buzz
Kia’s PV5 electric van is stepping onto the scene, and it’s bringing a rugged, versatile design along with it. Displayed initially as a concept at last year’s CES, the production version has largely retained its futuristic styling, with the added practicality of plastic body cladding for a more robust appearance.
The PV5’s design includes chunky side mirrors and a large charging port cap that sits centrally on the front bumper. Its angular LED daytime running lights, repurposed as turn signals, are reminiscent of the concept model. The main headlights are positioned lower, flanking the charging port. A front-facing camera is located below the company logo, and the prominent radar sensor is easily visible below the license plate.
Two configurations are available: Cargo and Passenger versions. The Cargo model features twin side-opening tailgate doors, while the Passenger version has a single lift-up tailgate door.
Interior details have yet to be released, but the PV5 will feature separate screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment. Both versions are equipped with substantial grab handles in the A-pillars, and the Passenger model features a generously sized greenhouse.
Kia has plans to introduce further derivatives of the electric van, along with conversion options that accommodate various business and personal needs. Built from the ground up as an EV, the midsize PV5 is part of a broader ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’ (PBV) family. The family might expand, potentially including an electric pickup, as hinted by a concept truck showcased at the 2024 CES.
The official reveal of the Kia PV5 is scheduled for February 24, during the 2025 Kia EV Day in Tarragona, Spain. Comprehensive technical specifications are set to follow three days later.
