Kia Tasman Set to Battle Ford Ranger Offroad with ARB Accessories
The Kia Tasman, the Korean automaker’s first ladder-frame pickup truck, is nearing its showroom debut, and aftermarket specialists are already preparing to enhance its off-road capabilities. Despite not being on sale yet, ARB 4×4, a renowned Australian accessory powerhouse with a growing presence in the US, has previewed an extensive lineup of Tasman-specific gear.
ARB’s teaser catalog showcases a wide range of accessories, including bull bars, bash plates, side rails, roof racks, bed systems, and potentially a lift kit. These accessories are designed to enhance the Tasman’s off-road potential, targeting global markets beyond Australia. Notably, ARB addressed concerns about the Tasman’s front fascia by demonstrating various ways to modify the grille, including different fog light configurations, without altering any body panels.
The Kia Tasman is positioned to compete with global nameplates such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, and Mitsubishi Triton. Initially launching in Australia with both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options across five trim levels, Kia plans to expand the truck’s availability to other key markets. However, the US market will receive a different truck, designed to rival the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger, with ambitious sales targets of 90,000 units annually and a 7% market share.
While specific details about the US version are limited, it is expected to feature a robust towing system and enhanced off-roading capabilities. The preparations by ARB and Kia’s plans underscore the competitive nature of the pickup truck market and the growing demand for off-road capable vehicles.
