Kia has revealed the first exterior images of its production-ready PV5 electric passenger and cargo vans, directly competing with Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz. The PV5 will be offered in three body styles with multiple interior configurations, primarily as passenger and cargo vans. Kia plans to release interior photos and detailed technical specifications by the end of the month.
Vehicle Design and Features
The production version of the PV5 closely resembles the concept shown at last year’s CES. Both passenger and cargo versions feature a simple front end and a tall, flat profile providing ample headroom. The passenger version boasts large glass windows extending to the rear, while the cargo version has these panels blocked out. The passenger model features a lift-up tailgate, whereas the cargo model uses twin side-opening doors.
Specifications and Availability
While powertrain details remain undisclosed, Kia has developed the PV5 from the ground up as an electric vehicle. The dashboard appears to feature separate screens for infotainment and the gauge cluster. Kia is scheduled to reveal more about the van on February 24, with additional details on interior and powertrain to follow three days later.
Market Impact
The PV5’s release positions Kia as a competitor in the electric van market against Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz. However, due to current tariff laws, it’s unlikely the PV5 will be available in the United States market.
