Is the hatchback making a comeback? Kia’s debut all-electric hatchback, the EV4, is turning heads. While it might resemble a low-profile crossover more than a traditional hatch, its anticipated competitive pricing could make it a popular choice.
We got our first look at the EV4 during Kia’s 2025 EV Day last month, where four models, including two sedans and two hatchbacks, were showcased. These new models are set to expand the EV lineup of Kia. The EV4 is part of Kia’s new mass-market electric vehicle lineup, with prices potentially starting as low as $30,000, and even less in some markets.

Following the opening of orders for the EV4 sedan in Korea recently, the hatchback version is expected to arrive later this year. The EV4 hatch was recently observed on Korean roads for the first time, offering a clearer view of its overall design.
The EV4 hatchback is a departure from the standard hatchback design. In Kia’s words, the “EV4 introduces a new typology” for sedans and hatchbacks, with a design that leans towards a mini-crossover aesthetic.
The EV4 sedan starts at about $29,000 (41.92 million won) in Korea. While the sedan is assembled at Kia’s Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in Korea, the hatchback will be produced in Slovakia, as it is primarily targeted towards the European market.
Kia plans to begin building hatchback models in the second half of the year. The sedan model will also launch in Europe later this year and is set to offer two battery options: 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh, with a range of up to 630 km (391 miles) based on WLTP standards. The hatchback model is rated with up to 590 km (366 miles) range by WLTP standards.
For US consumers, the EV4 sedan is planned for launch. However, there is no confirmed release date. When it arrives, it is expected to be among the most affordable EV options, likely priced between approximately $35,000 and $40,000. The hatchback is estimated to begin at around 37,000 euros ($40,000) in Europe. Unfortunately, it is not expected to be available in the US.
