A Unique Lamborghini Huracan with Papal Approval
In a surprising gesture, Lamborghini once created a one-off Huracan supercar that was signed and blessed by Pope Francis himself. This exclusive vehicle was more than just a luxury sports car – it was a symbol of the Pontiff’s charitable efforts.
The story begins in November 2017 when Lamborghini officials personally delivered a custom Huracan to the Vatican City. The car was specially decorated in white and yellow, matching the Pope’s attire and the Vatican City flag. Although Pope Francis didn’t purchase the $390,000 exotic supercar, he did sign the bonnet, making it a unique piece. More significantly, he blessed the vehicle, adding spiritual value to its already considerable material worth.
Rather than keeping the Huracan, Pope Francis requested that it be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to various charities of his choice. The auction took place on May 12, 2018, at RM Sotheby’s, where the ‘Holy Lamborghini’ sold for €809,375 (approximately $1.44 million AUD in 2025). The donation was then distributed among several worthy causes.
The Pontifical Foundation ‘Aiuto alla Chiese che Soffre’ (Aid to the Church in Need) received part of the donation to help rebuild the Nineveh Plain in Iraq. Other beneficiaries included the Pope John XXIII Community, which supports women victims of trade and prostitution, and two African-based charities: ‘Progetto Casa Papa Francesco’ (Pope Francis House Project) and GICAM.
This unique Huracan is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine, capable of going from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds. Interestingly, this high-performance vehicle contrasts with Pope Francis’s known climate-conscious beliefs. In fact, Vatican City had previously replaced its entire fleet with electric vehicles courtesy of Volkswagen.
The Lamborghini Huracan’s story highlights the intersection of luxury, faith, and charity, creating a truly remarkable tale in the automotive world.
