Leapmotor Launches B10 Electric SUV, Targeting Global Markets
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Leapmotor has unveiled its second all-electric offering, the B10 SUV, at an event in Hangzhou, China. The new model boasts an attractive price and advanced technology, quickly garnering significant interest.
The B10’s competitive pricing, ranging from approximately $A24,000 to $A30,700, has already translated into rapid demand. Within the first hour of pre-sales, the company secured over 15,000 orders, demonstrating strong consumer interest in affordable smart EVs.
The launch was initially reported by Inside China Auto on X (formerly Twitter) from the Hangzhou event, where Leapmotor highlighted the B10’s features. The mid-sized SUV is built on the company’s latest Leap 3.5 architecture, offering a range of up to 600 km on the CLTC cycle. This range likely translates to over 500 km under the WLTP cycle, a key metric for many international markets, including Australia.
The B10 is available with two battery pack options: a 67.1 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, and a 56.2 kWh pack rated at 510 km CLTC range.
Design and Performance
The B10 has dimensions of 4.52 meters in length, slightly shorter than the C10 SUV, which measures 4.74 meters. It offers two motor configurations: 132 kW and 160 kW. The more powerful motor configuration allows acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, according to company specifications. The smaller motor will help the car accelerate from 0-100 km/h in over 9 seconds.
Advanced Features and Interior
Based on the Leap 3.5 architecture, the B10 is equipped with intelligent driving systems, including a LiDAR system that supports highway and city navigation and driving capabilities. The interior features a 14.6-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch driver instrument cluster. A unique feature is the availability of accessories that can be mounted on the passenger side, offering practicality such as a tray table for work or entertainment.
Leapmotor’s Australian Presence
Leapmotor entered the Australian market in 2024 with the C10 electric SUV. As of December 2024 and the first two months of 2025, the C10 has recorded a total of 115 sales in Australia. The company is also preparing an extended-range version of the C10 for the local market. While the B10’s Australian release date is unconfirmed, it’s expected to be in the second half of 2025.
Leapmotor’s international expansion is supported by Stellantis, which holds a 50% stake in Leapmotor’s international expansion joint venture. The B10 is poised to compete with popular mid-sized SUVs like the BYD Atto 3. The company is currently keeping an eye on the market given the popularity of that segment. The B10 is a welcome addition to the growing number of EV options available to Australian drivers.
