Local News Woman Arrested After Teen’s Fatal Fall from Truck at East Side Sports Complex
A 28-year-old woman, Yvonne Haygood, has been arrested and charged with collision involving death after a 15-year-old boy fell from her pickup truck and died from his injuries. The incident occurred on May 25 at the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex in Martin Luther King Park on San Antonio’s East Side.
According to the arrest affidavit, Haygood was allegedly performing ‘donuts’ in the parking lot when the 15-year-old victim, identified as Deon Joseph by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, fell out of the vehicle. Witnesses described the horrific scene to authorities, stating that Joseph was bleeding from both ears and had a crushed chest upon their arrival.

The affidavit reveals that Haygood fled the scene before police arrived, telling fire officials that ‘they were not cops, and they could not hold her there.’ Authorities later identified Haygood through investigation and interviews with teenagers who witnessed the incident. These witnesses stated that Joseph had forgotten his phone at the complex and requested a ride from Haygood, who was driving from their apartments on Noblewood Drive.
Upon further investigation, police found blood in the bed and backseat of the truck Haygood was driving. She was eventually taken into custody and initially refused to cooperate with authorities. However, she later revealed the location of the truck.
Haygood was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Friday and was given a $75,000 bond by a judge, according to Bexar County court records. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Joseph died from cranial and cerebral injuries sustained during the fall.
The community is left reeling from the tragic incident, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving and the severe consequences that can result from such actions.
