WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A log trailer detached from its truck and came to a dramatic stop on NC 87 Monday night, causing significant disruptions for drivers. The incident occurred at 7:45 p.m. at 4712 Old Stage Road in Riegelwood, prompting authorities to shut down the road in both directions.
According to Acme Delco Riegelwood Fire-Rescue, the road closure lasted for several hours while crews worked to clear the area. Chief Steve Camlin reported that upon arrival, firefighters found the log trailer blocking the road and a mother with her children who had fortunately noticed the obstruction.
The situation was resolved by 1:18 a.m. the following morning, when ADR Fire-Rescue announced that the road was clear. The cause of the trailer detaching from the truck has not been specified in the initial reports.
Drivers are advised to check for updates before traveling through the area, as traffic incidents like these can sometimes lead to lingering delays.
