A 40-year-old man, Malcolm Harris, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery using a deadly weapon after a Chicago Police officer was injured during a traffic stop in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. According to Chicago police, the incident occurred on May 3 when officers pulled over a vehicle in the 4700 block of West Madison Street due to erratic driving. As police investigated, Harris, the driver, attempted to speed away, striking and dragging an officer in the process. The officer fell to the ground, and their weapon discharged, though no one was hit by the gunfire. Harris is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a detention hearing.
