Man Found Dead After Fleeing Dump Truck Crash in Peoria County
HANNA CITY, Ill. (WMBD) — A 39-year-old man died after a dump truck crash in Peoria County, Illinois, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. The man was found behind a dumpster after fleeing the scene.
Sheriff Chris Watkins reported that deputies were called to the 200 block of North Third Street in Hanna City at 10:43 p.m. on Friday, March 21, following a report of a vehicle in a ditch. Upon arrival, deputies found a dump truck in a ditch. Witnesses stated that the driver had fled the scene.
Deputies initiated an investigation. They identified Keith Siegel, 39, as the likely driver of the dump truck, but were unable to locate him at that time.
At 2:30 a.m. on March 22, deputies were called to a business located at the 12900 block of West Farmington Road, where a body had been discovered behind a dumpster.
The body was identified as Siegel, who was not breathing when discovered. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, Watkins said.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses. They determined that Siegel may have fallen from a retaining wall while fleeing the crash, resulting in a head injury.
An autopsy is scheduled by the Peoria County Coroner’s Office. The incident remains under investigation.
