A 78-year-old man lost his life on Saturday morning when an MBTA commuter rail train collided with a pickup truck at the Beechwood Street railroad crossing in Cohasset. The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m., according to the Cohasset Police Department. Officers responded quickly to the scene, where they found the man suffering from severe traumatic injuries. Despite efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim’s identity had not been released as of Sunday. The pickup truck involved was identified as a 2015 GMC, which sustained significant damage and was deemed a total loss following the collision. Multiple witnesses reported hearing the impact from their homes in the area. The Beechwood Street crossing was closed temporarily but was reopened to the public by 4:30 p.m. the same day. Authorities, including the MBTA Transit Police, Massachusetts State Police, and the Cohasset Police Department, are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. This unfortunate event marks the second fatal MBTA commuter rail crash in four days; on Wednesday, April 30, a woman died after her SUV collided with a train in Abington. As investigations continue into both incidents, officials from various agencies were not available for comment on Sunday.
