A 34-year-old Charlotte man, Lonneil Cordarius Mason, was airlifted to ECU Health in Greenville in critical condition after a dramatic incident on Sunday. According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, Mason allegedly shot at three Amazon delivery vans before crashing head-on with an SUV while driving north in the southbound lane of N.C. Highway 11 around 10:30 a.m.
The sequence of events began when Mason shot into two Amazon vans on Felix Harvey Parkway and another on N.C. 11. He then drove into oncoming traffic, where his 2011 white BMW collided with multiple vehicles. The crash involved three total vehicles: the first lost a mirror, while Mason’s car collided head-on with a second vehicle carrying two women.
Mason’s actions led to a complex emergency response, culminating in his airlift to a hospital. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the potential motives behind Mason’s actions. The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and subsequent crash.
