KINSTON, N.C. — A 34-year-old man, Lonneil Cordarius Mason, is in critical condition following a series of events that included the shooting at three Amazon delivery vans and a subsequent head-on collision. According to law enforcement officials, Mason is accused of firing shots at the vans before being involved in a car crash while driving in the wrong direction.
The shootings reportedly began around 10:15 a.m. on Sunday. The first two Amazon vans targeted were on Felix Harvey Parkway. In one instance, a .45 caliber pistol was used to shoot through the passenger door of a van driven by a female. The second van was also driven by a female and was struck by an AR-15 pistol, with the bullet passing through the back of the vehicle and several packages. The third shooting occurred on N.C. Highway 11, north of the parkway, targeting the driver’s side of another van driven by a male.
Fortunately, none of the Amazon drivers sustained injuries in the shootings.
Following the shootings, Mason was driving a 2011 white BMW when he caused a head-on collision with an SUV. Traveling north in the southbound lane of N.C. 11, Mason’s vehicle struck three other vehicles before colliding head-on with the SUV. The first vehicle had its mirror knocked off, the second was hit head-on by Mason, and the third was a truck towing mowers on a trailer. No injuries were reported from the first and third collisions.
There were two female victims in the head-on collision, both of whom were transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. One was transported by EastCare from UNC Lenoir Health in Kinston. Both victims are in critical condition, and their identities are being withheld pending family notification.
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Patrol are actively investigating the series of events that transpired on Sunday morning.
