Braintree police are investigating two separate incidents involving men and box trucks that occurred on Friday.
The first incident, reported just before 1:20 p.m., involved a man who lay down under a delivery truck on Washington Street. According to the Braintree Police Department, the man entered the road at 1574 Washington St., positioning himself in front of the moving truck. The delivery driver stopped the vehicle to avoid hitting him. The department reported that the man then walked to the truck and lay down beneath it. The driver was forced to get out of the truck and physically remove the man. The man subsequently fled the scene, heading north on Washington Street.
As police were investigating the first incident, they received several 911 calls reporting that a man had been struck by a box truck near 1599 Washington St., only a two-minute walk from the initial incident. The Braintree Police Department confirmed that the box truck involved in the second incident was owned by the Braintree Electric Light Department. First responders treated the injured man on site before transporting him to a local hospital with serious injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the second crash. Police have not yet confirmed if the same man was involved in both incidents.
