Maruti Fronx Electric Launch On the Cards โ What to Expect?
Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to introduce several new Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) by the fiscal year 2030, though specific launch dates and names for these upcoming EVs are still pending. The company’s electric vehicle range will commence with the Maruti e-Vitara, which is slated for arrival in March 2025. Following this, the Maruti Fronx Electric, an entry-level small car, and the Ertiga EV are expected to be released. The Fronx Electric will be positioned to compete with the Tata Punch EV, while the electric version of the Ertiga MPV will focus on fleet operators and families.

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the e-Vitara will be offered with two battery pack options: a 49kWh and a 61kWh configuration. The smaller battery is projected to deliver 143 bhp of power, while the larger one will provide 173 bhp. Both batteries will generate a maximum torque of 192.5 Nm. The electric Vitara is expected to have a range exceeding 500km (MIDC).
Details on the Maruti Fronx Electric remain limited. However, this small electric SUV is anticipated to incorporate EV-specific design elements both inside and out. Determining the specifications for its battery pack, range, and power remains premature. It is thought that the Fronx Electric will feature a smaller capacity battery, comparable to its rival, the Tata Punch EV. The Tata Punch EV currently offers 25kWh and 35kWh battery options, with claimed MIDC ranges of 315km and 421km, respectively. The pricing for the Maruti Fronx Electric is projected to start around Rs 12 lakh for the base model.
The Tata Punch EV, equipped with a 35kWh battery pack, is priced between Rs 12.84 lakh and Rs 14.44 lakh (ex-showroom). The compact electric crossover is expected to be released in 2027.
Maruti Fronx Hybrid
The automaker is also developing a strong hybrid version of the Maruti Fronx, scheduled for release by mid-2025. The Fronx hybrid will be equipped with the Swift’s 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine, coupled with an electric motor and a battery pack. This strong hybrid powertrain is a proprietary development by Maruti Suzuki, which is expected to be more cost-effective than Toyota’s Atkinson strong hybrid technology. The Fronx hybrid is anticipated to offer a fuel efficiency of over 35kmpl.
