Maruti Suzuki’s May 2025 Sales Figures Show Resilience Amidst Dip
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, reported total sales of 1,80,077 units in May 2025, representing a marginal decline from 1,85,514 units in May 2024. The sales figures indicate a mixed performance across different vehicle segments.
Passenger Car Sales Decline
The passenger car segment witnessed a drop in sales, with 68,736 units sold in May 2025 compared to 78,838 units in the same month last year. This decline was primarily driven by a sharp fall in the Mini segment, which includes models like Alto and S-Presso, slipping to 6,776 units from 9,902 units. Compact cars, including Baleno, Swift, and Dzire, also saw a slight decrease to 61,502 units from 68,206 units.
UVs and Vans Drive Sales Stability
In contrast, the Utility Vehicle (UV) segment, comprising models such as Brezza, Grand Vitara, and Fronx, held steady with 54,899 units sold, a marginal gain over the 54,204 units recorded last year. The Eeco van also performed well, with sales rising to 12,327 units from 10,960 units.
Commercial Vehicles and Exports Show Strength
The Super Carry Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) maintained its momentum with 2,728 units sold, while sales to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) stood at 10,168 units. Maruti Suzuki’s export business demonstrated significant growth, rising to 31,219 units in May 2025 from 26,367 units last year, marking an increase of nearly 18%.
Cumulative Sales for April-May FY 2025-26
In the first two months of the financial year 2025-26, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 3,59,868 vehicles, compared to 3,42,640 vehicles during the same period last year. While passenger car sales experienced a year-on-year decline, growth in exports and van sales helped offset the decrease.

The varied performance across different segments highlights the challenges and opportunities in the Indian automotive market. As Maruti Suzuki navigates these trends, the company’s overall sales figures remain robust, supported by strong performance in key segments.
