Maserati’s Electric Evolution: Driving the GranTurismo Folgore
Maserati, known for crafting some of the most stunning sports coupes, has embraced the electric revolution with the GranTurismo Folgore. But does this new battery-powered iteration live up to the legacy of its predecessors? I took the wheel to find out.

What’s New?
The GranTurismo has always been a head-turner, and the Folgore maintains that tradition while introducing some subtle design tweaks. The exterior design is refreshed, and the interior has been significantly upgraded with new technology and premium materials, giving it a more luxurious feel. This is Maserati’s first all-electric offering.

The car benefits from 800V technology, which not only enhances its efficiency but also promises faster charging times. The GranCabrio, a four-seater convertible version, is also available as an electric model.
Power and Performance

Under the hood, or rather, beneath the floor, resides a 92.5kWh battery pack paired with dual electric motors. This potent combination generates a staggering 751bhp and 1,350Nm of torque. This allows the Folgore to sprint from 0 to 60mph in a mere 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 202mph. Maserati claims a range of up to 280 miles on a single charge supported by 270kW DC rapid charging, which can add 62 miles of range in just five minutes.
Driving Impressions

On the road, the GranTurismo Folgore presents a dual personality. The electric motors provide blistering acceleration, and the car handles responsively on twisty roads. The standard all-wheel-drive system ensures excellent traction. Visibility is good, with a large rear window and thin A-pillars. Different drive modes adjust throttle response and air suspension.
However, the ride is undeniably firm, and the car’s added weight makes the Folgore feel heavy, which detracts from its otherwise sharp driving dynamics.
Interior and Design

The Folgore model closely resembles its petrol counterpart, which is a positive starting point. The front features the GranTurismo’s signature low and long nose. The side profile is adorned with Folgore badges and three side vents. The rear retains the diffuser and wraparound taillights, with the charging flap positioned on the rear bumper, which slightly disrupts the clean lines.
Inside, the cabin retains the four-seater coupe layout. The rear seats are suitable for short journeys, while the front seats offer a low-slung driving position. High-quality materials are used throughout, and the test car featured a striking combination of blue and cream leather. An analogue clock with a digital background adds a touch of luxury.

Ergonomically, there are some areas for improvement, mainly around the large regenerative braking paddle shifters on the steering wheel, and the infotainment screen that is complex to use on the move. Additionally, the boot capacity is relatively small at 270 liters compared to its petrol counterpart.

Pricing and Verdict
The GranTurismo Folgore is not an inexpensive proposition. My test car, with optional extras, came in at £195,370. The standard equipment includes all-wheel drive, air suspension, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. However, options can quickly increase the price.
While Maserati’s foray into electric vehicles is a strong first step, the Folgore’s high price tag hinders its value proposition. It delivers impressive performance and a luxurious interior, but the cost may make it a challenging contender in the performance electric car market.
