Mazda Expands Electrified Vehicle Lineup in China
Changan Mazda Automobile Corporation Ltd. (Changan Mazda), a company with investment from Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda), has revealed its upcoming electrified models, the Mazda EZ-6 and the Mazda 創 Arata, at Auto China 2024. This move underscores Mazda’s commitment to the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market within China.
Mazda EZ-6: A Dedicated Electrified Model
The Mazda EZ-6, slated for launch in China by the end of 2024, is the first in a series of new energy vehicles (NEVs) developed and manufactured by Changan Mazda in collaboration with Mazda and Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. (Changan Automobile). The EZ-6 will be offered in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions, providing Chinese consumers with options to match their lifestyles.
Mazda 創 Arata: A Crossover SUV Design Concept
Also unveiled at Auto China 2024 was the Mazda 創 Arata, a design concept model planned for mass production as the second new electrified vehicle by the end of 2025. Designed to appeal to Chinese consumers, the 創 Arata is a crossover SUV that embodies the Mazda philosophy of “Uplifting the Human Spirit.”
Mazda’s Strategy for the Chinese Market
Masahiro Moro, President & CEO of Mazda, speaking at the Changan Mazda press conference stated, “We are delighted to introduce the all-new new energy vehicle (NEV) developed in alliance with Mazda and Changan Automobile. The Mazda EZ-6 is the latest electrified vehicle that combines Mazda’s strengths with Changan Automobile’s electrified technology… Mazda will continue to work with Changan Automobile to turn Mazda’s China business around by introducing its unique products that meet the needs of Chinese customers who prefer advanced vehicles.”
Mazda EZ-6: Design and Performance
The Mazda EZ-6 fuses Mazda’s KODO-Soul of Motion design language with advanced electric vehicle technology. The car’s design, inspired by the theme “Authentic Modern,” features a simple, flowing coupe form. The EZ-6 prioritizes the “Jinba-ittai” (car and driver as one) driving experience. The car features a 50:50 weight distribution (BEV model) and an electric-powered rear spoiler for high-speed stability.
Mazda EZ-6: Technology and Features
The Mazda EZ-6 incorporates intelligent driver-assistance systems, including accident mitigation technology and intelligent parking capabilities that allow the driver to control the car via voice commands. The vehicle also features a smart cabin with voice, touch, and gesture control.

The BEV model has an expected driving range of approximately 600 km, while the PHEV model is expected to achieve over 1,000km of driving range on a single tank of fuel. The vehicle specifications are as follows:

Mazda 創 Arata: Design Concept
The design theme for Mazda 創 Arata is “SOULFUL + FUTURISTIC x MODERN.” The design embodies the ‘excitement of motion’ pursued by Mazda Design and the sense of life unique to KODO design. The model incorporates aerodynamic features, including air tunnels, that contribute to improved environmental performance.
Mazda aims to deliver the ‘Joy of Living’ by creating moving experiences in customers’ daily lives, and the company plans to continue its pursuit of the ‘Joy of Driving.’
