Mercedes-AMG is preparing to electrify its SUV lineup with a high-performance model designed to challenge the status quo. Set to arrive around 2026, this all-electric super SUV promises groundbreaking power and a striking design influenced by the Vision AMG concept.
Design and Inspiration
Mercedes-AMG’s new electric SUV is being developed alongside their first in-house electric sedan, sharing design cues with the 2022 Vision AMG concept. The design is expected to be bold, possibly similar to recent renderings of the AMG’s Taycan fighter.

Artist Nikita Chuyko created illustrations based on test mules and recent renderings, offering a glimpse of what the new SUV might look like.
The front of the SUV showcases a faux grille, a common feature in EVs, accompanied by headlights connected by a light bar. It is expected to have the Three-Pointed Star DRLs, a design element appearing on a variety of new Mercedes models. The rear end features a wraparound LED taillight design reminiscent of the Kia EV6.
Power and Performance
The new AMG electric SUV, potentially bearing the GT SUV moniker, is expected to match the size of the 2022 Vision AMG concept. It will stretch to around 5.1 meters (200 inches) in length with a wheelbase exceeding 3 meters (118 inches), positioning it in the same category as the fully electric EQS SUV flagship. Built on the new AMG.EA platform, the electric SUV will feature an 800-volt electrical system for faster charging and improved efficiency.
The SUV will feature newly developed axial-flux electric motors from British company Yasa, which could potentially generate over 1,000 hp. This immense power output positions the AMG electric SUV as a direct competitor to other high-performance electric crossovers, such as the Lotus Eletre R with its 905 hp.
Competition and Timing
The production version of the new electric SUV is expected to debut in 2026, with sales beginning later that year or in early 2027, depending on the market. It will directly compete with the upcoming Porsche K1.
While the technical specifications and power figures are certainly impressive, the commercial success of this electric SUV will depend heavily on its design and overall appeal within the luxury electric crossover market. The new model represents Mercedes-AMG’s commitment to an electric future, aiming to deliver a compelling alternative to traditional performance vehicles.
