Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the new E 53 AMG Hybrid sedan, revealing its price and detailed specifications as it opens for orders. With a starting price of $199,900 before on-road costs, the E 53 AMG commands a significant premium over the previous model and the standard E 300. However, the substantial price increase is justified by extensive performance and technological enhancements, most notably the incorporation of a potent plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The core of the E 53 AMG Hybrid remains a proven 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder petrol engine. Mercedes has paired this with a robust 120kW/450Nm electric motor and a 21.2kWh battery pack. This combination delivers a combined output of 430kW and 750Nm, all channeled to the road via a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
This represents a considerable upgrade from the previous generation, with an increase of 130kW and 230Nm. The 0-100km/h sprint time has been dramatically reduced to 3.8 seconds, a decrease of 0.7 seconds. The hybrid system also offers a 100km electric range based on the NEDC cycle. Drivers can easily select electric mode via the steering wheel-mounted drive mode selector.
Fuel efficiency has also seen a remarkable improvement. The E 53 AMG Hybrid achieves a fuel consumption of 1.7-litres/100km according to the NEDC cycle, a significant leap from its predecessor’s 9.2L/100km. Beyond the hybrid system, Mercedes has introduced additional performance hardware. This includes a new twin-scroll exhaust gas turbocharger with increased boost pressure and additional cooling for both the front engine and wheel arches. Furthermore, the vehicle benefits from steel-spring AMG suspension, two-valve adjustable dampers, and revised engine mounts for enhanced ride dynamics.
The E 53 AMG Hybrid features an 11kW AC charger, along with 60kW DC fast charging capability, allowing the battery to be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes. To accommodate the new powertrain, the E 53 AMG is 11mm wider on each side. The exterior design incorporates larger front air intakes, a distinctive AMG front apron, and a broader lower air inlet designed to direct air towards the AMG front cooler. An external side intake channels air through the wheel arches. The car is equipped with red AMG brake callipers, with a 390mm brake disc and six-piston fixed callipers, set within 20-inch light-alloy wheels, although 21-inch forged alloys are available as an optional extra. AMG-specific side skirts and retractable door handles contribute to the car’s sleek profile.
Additional design elements include an AMG spoiler on the trunk lid, a redesigned rear apron and diffuser, and double round tailpipe trims, reinforcing the car’s sporty aesthetic. Hybrid-specific badges subtly announce its electrified nature. The interior boasts E 53 AMG-specific open-pore ash wood trim with AMG branding. Electronically adjustable, heated, and ventilated AMG sports seats upholstered in Nappa leather with embossed AMG emblems come standard. An AMG steering wheel, also clad in Nappa leather, incorporates a drive-mode selector with settings for Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Electric, and Battery Hold.
The cabin features a three-screen setup, including a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a passenger screen, and a central 14.4-inch touchscreen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional features include ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, wireless charging, and a 17-speaker Burmester surround sound system.
Various optional packages are available, including the AMG Night Package, AMG Carbon Fibre Package, Performance Seat Package, and Energising Package. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz E 53 AMG Hybrid is currently available for order through authorized Mercedes dealers.
