Mercedes-Benz is gearing up for the next generation of its electric vans, with a full reveal expected in 2026. The company recently concluded winter testing and has unveiled snowy images of its van prototypes, hinting at new features for these practical EVs.

One of the most significant advancements is the inclusion of all-wheel drive. Current electric van offerings, such as the eCitan and eVito, are front-wheel drive, while the eSprinter is rear-wheel drive. The new all-wheel-drive system likely means the vans will feature two electric motors, one for each axle, potentially offering increased power and traction. Mercedes may still offer single-motor variants for a more affordable entry point.
The second confirmed feature is four-wheel steering, a system Mercedes has previously used in models like the AMG GT and the S-Class. This technology enhances maneuverability in tight spaces by allowing some rear counter-steer. For long vehicles like vans, this feature can be a significant advantage, especially on narrow streets.
The new electric vans will be built on the VAN.EA platform, with combustion versions utilizing the VAN.CA platform to follow. While commercial versions are expected, the initial focus has been on passenger versions. Mercedes has also indicated its intention to offer extremely luxurious electric vans, a growing trend as consumers seek spacious, feature-rich vehicles. The company has confirmed that these electric vans will be available in the U.S.
