Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology Previewed
Mercedes-Benz has offered a glimpse of its upcoming all-electric SUV, the GLC with EQ efficiency, currently undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden. This vehicle is poised to enter a competitive market, challenging established electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Porsche Macan EV, and Audi Q6 e-tron.
The German automaker has released images of a camouflaged prototype, hinting at the vehicle’s design. This model will become the second electric car from the brand to incorporate the EQ nomenclature, following the rugged G580 with EQ technology. However, the GLC with EQ efficiency will be the first to utilize the new MB.EA architecture, specifically designed for future generations of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.

Powertrain and Performance
The new GLC EV will be built on a dedicated EV platform, also underpinning the upcoming C-Class sedan EV and a baby G-Class SUV, both scheduled for unveiling in 2026. It will be the first from the automaker to feature Mercedes-Benz’s eATS 2.0 powertrain. The base variant is expected to offer a rear-wheel-drive setup with a single 200 kW electric motor. The top-end versions will likely boast a dual-motor setup that provides all-wheel drive, with the flagship version potentially delivering a 360 kW electric powertrain.
The SUV will be powered by a large 94.5 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack, which should provide a range of up to 650 kilometers on a single charge. Mercedes-Benz has also suggested that the GLC EV will feature a dual-speed transmission and a front drive-unit capable of instant engagement or disengagement. This feature should allow the vehicle to operate primarily in two-wheel-drive mode, enhancing efficiency and extending range.
Market and Availability
The new GLC EV is positioned as an indirect replacement for the Mercedes-Benz EQC, which was discontinued two years ago. Upon its launch, the GLC EV will compete with the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan EV, among others. The new GLC EV is expected to be unveiled at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025 and is anticipated to arrive in the Indian market sometime in 2026.
