Mercedes-Benz Issues Recall for eSprinter Electric Vans
Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall of 689 eSprinter electric vans from the 2024 model year due to a potential issue that could cause the vehicles to lose all drive power. According to the automaker’s report to federal safety regulators, the welds on the helical gear within the rear axle can fail, resulting in a loss of propulsion. In addition to the loss of drive power, Mercedes-Benz notes that the parking lock may not function as intended, although the parking brake should still be capable of holding the vehicle stationary.

To address this issue, authorized dealers will replace the entire rear axle electric drivetrain free of charge to the vehicle owners. This recall highlights the importance of regular checks for outstanding recalls on vehicles, as manufacturers may not always successfully contact every owner.
