Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall of 88 Sprinter vans from the 2024 model year. The recall is a consequence of possible parking brake failure.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from “spot welds that attach the parking brake cable bracket to the underbody frame [that] might not meet current production specifications.” If the welds are faulty, the parking brake may not function properly, leaving the vehicle at risk of rolling.
Mercedes-Benz dealers will conduct inspections of the welds. They will then strengthen the welds as necessary to mitigate the risk, the company stated. The repairs associated with this recall will be carried out at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Millions of vehicle owners, however, miss recall notices annually, potentially continuing to operate recalled vehicles without awareness. Owners can check if their cars are subject to a safety recall at the NHTSA website.
