Mercedes-Benz’s VAN.EA Platform: The Electric Van Revolution
Mercedes-Benz is charging ahead with its electric vehicle strategy by introducing the VAN.EA platform. Starting in 2026, all new medium and large vans will move to this modular, scalable electric architecture.

These prototypes are currently undergoing testing on public roads, marking a significant step forward in the reinvention of the van. While the test vehicles are heavily camouflaged, Mercedes is providing images to keep enthusiasts informed.
This platform allows for a clear separation between vans targeted for private use and the commercial sector. Mercedes-Benz is aiming for a diverse lineup of privately positioned vans, ranging from family vehicles and luxury VIP shuttles to high-end spacious MPVs. On the commercial side, the new vans will address a broad range of customer needs in terms of installed technologies.
These new vans will be equipped with the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), an 800-volt charging system, and a 22 kW AC charger, with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. Commercial vehicles will follow the main features of the MB.EA platform, which will be used for the new Mercedes CLA from 2025.
Following a long-distance trial in June 2024 from Stuttgart to the North Cape, the focus of testing is now on the interplay of all vehicle components. Winter testing in Sweden will be the next major milestone. The official unveiling is expected at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in September 2025.
