Mercedes-Benz Unveils Vision V Concept: A Preview of the Future Luxury Electric Van
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the Vision V concept at the Shanghai Auto Show, giving us a glimpse into the future of luxury electric vans. The Vision V previews the top-end version of the next-generation V-Class, which will be launched in 2026 and will be the most luxurious passenger-oriented vehicle in Mercedes’ lineup.

The next-generation V-Class will be designed as a ‘private lounge’ on wheels, marking a clear distinction between commercial vans and privately owned ones. While the current V-Class is based on the Metris commercial van, the new model will be a standalone design riding on the newly developed electric Van.EA platform. Mercedes sees vans as the next great frontier for luxury vehicles, targeting customers with the ‘highest demands.’
Luxury Features and Design
The Vision V concept showcases a luxurious interior with features such as:
- A three-screen Superscreen display
- Padded seats with individual tubular cushions
- Transparent storage compartments
- Crystal White Nappa leather color scheme
- Burmester stereo speakers integrated into transparent panels
- Open-pore burr wood and polished metal accents

The rear passenger compartment is designed like a living room, with reclining seats, a sliding center console, and a glass partition that can change from transparent to opaque. A retractable 65-inch 4K screen can be raised from the floor, complemented by a Dolby Atmos sound system with 42 speakers and projectors that extend the viewing experience to the roof, sides, and floor.

Production Plans and Pricing
While the production V-Class won’t replicate all the concept’s extravagant features, it will likely include an optional partition with a massive screen. The new V-Class will be launched in 2026, with pricing expected to exceed $100,000 for top-of-the-line versions. The US market will see various configurations, including normal three-row versions that will still offer a more luxurious experience than traditional luxury SUVs.
The Vision V concept suggests that Mercedes is serious about entering the luxury van market in the US, potentially creating a new segment. With its focus on electric vehicles and luxury features, the next-generation V-Class could revolutionize the way people experience personal transportation.
