Mercedes-Benz is recalling 184 of its eSprinter vans due to a potential issue with the vehicles’ brake systems.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall concerns the brake boosters. These devices amplify the pressure applied to the brake pedal, making it easier to stop the vehicle. The eSprinter’s brake boosters can fail in the event of an electrical fault.
While the brakes will still function even without the booster, drivers may need to apply significantly more force to stop the van. Mercedes has stated that drivers will not receive any warning of the failure.
Mercedes indicated that no accidents or injuries have been reported due to this issue. The problem was discovered during testing at the factory.
To resolve the problem, dealers will perform a software update. E-Sprinter owners must take their vans to a dealership for this repair. Recall repairs are always carried out at no cost to the owner.
Automakers regularly issue recalls to address potential safety issues. Owners can check for outstanding recalls on their vehicles through the NHTSA website to find out if their car is affected.
