The Rivian R1T is designed as an “Adventure Vehicle,” but testing by MEVCO suggests its capabilities extend far beyond recreational use.

MEVCO, a company specializing in electric vehicle solutions for the mining industry, has put the R1T through its paces in extreme conditions. After subjecting the EV pickup to scorching heat in Australia and sub-zero temperatures in North America, MEVCO concluded, “the R1T is built for extremes.”
MEVCO was founded in 2022 with the mission of transforming the mining industry. The company offers not only electric vehicles like the Rivian R1T but also provides clients worldwide with comprehensive EV solutions, including charging infrastructure, maintenance services, and specialized training.
Testing of the Rivian R1T and Electric Commercial Van has been ongoing since last year. In a recent update, MEVCO showcased the R1T’s performance in harsh environments. The truck was tested “from the soaring heat of the desert to the biting cold of North America” to ensure the vehicle’s suitability for mining applications.
MEVCO’s social media posts stated, “This proves one thing loud and clear – the R1T is built for extremes,” accompanied by new photos of the customized neon green R1T. MEVCO currently has multiple teams operating in Australia, Canada, and the United States, supporting both underground and surface mining operations.
After a recent two-day, 1,000-mile journey across Australia, MEVCO announced that it had “proved why the future of mining is electric, safe, and sustainable.”
MEVCO offers the Gen 2 Rivian R1T Dual Motor model in two powertrain configurations: Dual Standard (LFP) and Dual Max (NCA). Both versions boast up to 533 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque. The Dual Standard model, equipped with a 97 kWh LFP battery, delivers a WLTP range of up to 258 miles, while the Dual Max, powered by a 149 kWh NCA battery pack, offers up to 370 miles (WLTP).

The R1T’s impressive capabilities, including up to 14.7 inches of ground clearance, its ability to traverse through three feet of water, and a towing capacity of up to 11,000 lbs (Dual Max). MEVCO has further adapted the R1T for the demands of mining by incorporating several custom upgrades, including a Rivian-designed front bar with vehicle sensors (sidebars are optional), a 12V Isolator, antenna, beacon, and mine bar.
