MG is set to launch its new electric SUV, the MGS6 EV, in Australia after receiving regulatory approval. The approval documentation reveals four variants of the vehicle, which are expected to be available in the local market later this year. These variants will feature two different battery packs and drivetrain options, with battery sizes ranging from 62 kWh to 77 kWh.
Key Features of the MGS6 EV
The entry-level rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant will come with a 62 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, suitable for daily use with charging up to 100%. The other three variants will feature a 77 kWh Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) battery pack, available in two RWD options and a top-spec all-wheel-drive (AWD) version. The variants are described with trim levels labeled as “COM”, “LUX”, and “FLG” in the regulatory documentation, with “FLG” potentially indicating a flagship luxury trim.
Expected Specifications and Pricing
The MGS6 EV is anticipated to be larger than the recently launched MGS5 EV SUV, potentially measuring close to 4.7 meters in length, competing with models like the Tesla Model Y. It is expected to utilize MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, first introduced in the MG4 hatchback. The vehicle will likely come with MG’s industry-leading 10-year/250,000km warranty, providing buyers with peace of mind.
While specific local specifications and pricing are yet to be announced, the starting price is expected to be around $50,000. More details on the MGS6 EV are likely to be released later this year as the launch approaches.
