MG’s New Electric SUV: MGS6 EV
MG is expanding its electric vehicle lineup in Australia with the upcoming MGS6 EV, which has appeared in Australian Government approval documents.
Key Features and Variants
The approval documents reveal that the MGS6 EV will be available with:
- Single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive variants
- Two battery options: 62.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and 77kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NCM) batteries
The entry-level variant will feature the smaller LFP battery with rear-wheel drive, while the larger NCM battery will be available in base, mid-spec, and flagship trim levels with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
The dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain will combine a 119kW front motor and a 180kW rear motor, delivering a total output of 266kW.
Design and Platform
The MGS6 EV is expected to be built on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) used by the MG 4 and MGS5 EV. It will feature a design similar to other recent MG models, with slim headlights, an aggressive lower front bumper, and smooth flanks.
The new SUV is likely to compete with models like the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, and Xpeng G6 in the mid-size electric SUV segment.

Market Positioning
The MGS6 EV will slot between the MGS5 EV and the upcoming MG IM6, a larger and more premium vehicle.
