A motorcyclist is in critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries following a collision with a pickup truck on South Cheney Spokane Road on Sunday morning. The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. when deputies from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash south of Sherman Road. The collision involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck towing a small utility trailer, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Both vehicles were traveling southbound, with the motorcycle behind the trailer. The pickup truck driver stopped to turn left, and in an attempt to pass on the driver’s side, the motorcyclist collided with the truck. The male pickup truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators from the sheriff’s traffic unit, and was not injured. The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings suggest that impairment and excessive speed are unlikely to be factors in the crash. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The pickup truck driver was issued traffic citations for driving without proof of insurance, driving with a suspended license, and operating a vehicle without a breathalyzer ignition interlock device. The roadway was closed until approximately 12:15 p.m., with assistance from a volunteer team for traffic control.
