SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist died following a collision with a pickup truck on Saturday evening in Salt Lake City’s Ballpark neighborhood.
Emergency responders were called to the scene at 1700 S. State Street at approximately 6:14 p.m., according to the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD). The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
“We are diverting all southbound traffic on State Street at Kensington Avenue. Westbound traffic on 1700 South is being diverted to northbound State Street,” the SLCPD announced. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
According to an SLCPD press release, “Based on the preliminary information, the motorcyclist, traveling south, and the pickup, turning left from State Street to westbound 1700 South, collided.”
This marks the second fatal traffic incident in Salt Lake City this year, the department confirmed. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
