Detectives are investigating a puzzling situation after the discovery of two bodies inside an abandoned pickup truck in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Tuesday. The vehicle was found along Highway 35, also known as Skyline Boulevard, approximately three miles south of Castle Rock State Park.
In a statement, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the active and ongoing nature of the investigation. “Two deceased individuals were located in a vehicle…As the deaths were not witnessed, they are coded as suspicious until a coroner can confirm cause and manner of death,” the CHP stated. Further investigative leads will be pursued based on the findings of the autopsies, according to the CHP.
A tow truck, accompanied by a CHP vehicle, was observed on Tuesday removing the pickup truck from the scene. Sources indicate that the two bodies were discovered inside the vehicle. The area is known for its tranquility and remoteness, with a sparse population. There were no visible surveillance cameras in the immediate vicinity. The area’s lack of security combined with its accessibility makes it an enticing location for criminal activity.
Castle Rock State Park, a popular destination for hikers, is close where the bodies were found. Many park users were stunned to learn about the grim discovery.
