A family in Edison, New Jersey, is grappling with the aftermath of a terrifying home invasion that has left them living in fear.
Early Sunday morning, three suspects forced their way into the family’s home, likely searching for keys to luxury vehicles. The incident, captured by a doorbell camera, shows the tense moments of the intrusion.
“It’s very difficult for me to watch and to relive. My stomach turns every time. They came in with no fear,” said the woman, a resident of the home. She described waking up to a confrontation between her fiancé and the intruders. Four months pregnant at the time, she quickly grabbed her 10-month-old son and hid in the bathroom.
“I’m just hearing a lot of commotion downstairs, the dog barking, my fiancé screaming, the men screaming,” she recounted.
According to police, the confrontation startled the suspects, leading them to flee the scene. The homeowner was unharmed, and investigators believe a high-end vehicle was the intended target. That same morning, Edison police reported that the same three suspects attempted burglaries in Woodbridge and Metuchen, with the goal of obtaining keys to luxury cars parked in driveways.
Police are advising residents to keep their car keys in a secure location within their homes, away from front and rear doors and kitchen counters.
“Hopefully now, families can see this and keep their loved ones safe, you know. Arm your homes, make sure that the alarms are on,” the woman stated.
The young family is now facing the daunting task of moving forward. “It’s not going to be an easy road, but, luckily, we are all safe and unharmed, so I’m grateful for that,” she said, reflecting on the experience.
