Alfa Romeo is gearing up to launch the next generation of its Stelvio SUV. According to a recent LinkedIn post by Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, the new model will be unveiled this year. The commercial launch is slated for 2026.
This next-generation Stelvio won’t just be a refresh; it signals a new era for the Italian brand. It’s set to ride on the STLA Large platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Giulia sedan. A hybrid gasoline variant will also be offered.
The STLA Large platform offers considerable flexibility. As automotive journalist David Booth reported last year, vehicles ranging from mid-sized sedans to large SUVs can be built on this platform. The platform allows for wheelbases spanning from 2,870 mm to 3,075 mm (113 to 121 inches) and a width of up to just over two meters (79 inches).
This platform is also used for gasoline variants of the new Dodge Charger. This suggests the new Stelvio and Giulia could share some powertrain components, including the straight-six Hurricane engines that can produce up to 550 horsepower. Given these specifications, the platform could also potentially be used for a new iteration of the Durango.
While Alfa Romeo may not be a dominant force in the Canadian market, the brand’s commitment to innovation suggests exciting times ahead for driving enthusiasts.
