Nissan is set to shake up the electric vehicle market with the launch of its sixth-generation Micra supermini in 2026. The new Micra will be fully electric, marking a significant departure from its predecessors. With a unique design inspired by the 2002 Mk3 model, the Micra Mk6 features ‘smiling-eye’ elliptical headlamps that morph into two LED rings. The car’s exterior is designed to be visually distinct from its Renault 5 E-Tech counterpart, sharing the same electric-only platform.
Design and Features
The Micra Mk6 boasts a distinctive ‘gelato scoop’ feature on its chunky flanks, along with 18-inch wheels and tall black sill cladding. The rear lamps are dial-shaped with red tab offshoots, creating a friendly and approachable appearance. Inside, the cabin is largely shared with the Renault 5, but with distinct Nissan touches such as a Mount Fuji-referencing silhouette on the centre console storage floor.
Technical Specifications
The new Micra will be available with two motor options – 120hp or 150hp – paired with two lithium-ion battery variants, offering electric ranges of 192 miles or 253 miles. Nissan’s e-Pedal system for one-pedal driving will feature, along with adjustable regenerative braking via steering wheel paddles. The car will also come with a range of safety features, including emergency braking, lane keep, and adaptive cruise control.
Interior and Technology
The interior offers decent space for tall adults in the front and reasonable room in the back. Luggage capacity extends to 1106 litres with the rear seats folded. The infotainment system is embedded with Google, and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard.
Pricing and Availability
While prices have yet to be announced, they are expected to start just under the Renault 5’s current entry price of £22,995. First UK deliveries are scheduled for January 2026. The new Micra is likely to appeal to those seeking a cute and understated electric supermini that flies under the radar.
