NJ Governor’s EV Mandate Under Fire
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s plan to require electric vehicle (EV) purchases by 2035 is stirring up some controversy.
Eric Degessero from the Fuel Merchants Association of New Jersey has voiced concerns, especially because of what he sees as a double standard.
The Governor’s Office is buying a fleet of large, gas-guzzling Chevrolet Suburbans for official use.
Degessero questions why residents are being pushed to buy EVs while the Governor’s security relies on traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Starting in 2025, one-third of new cars sold in New Jersey must be EVs, as per the mandate.
Degessero also pointed out that the state had previously repealed the legislative basis for such mandates.
He suggested that the EV mandate should be reconsidered. He believes the safety of all 9.2 million residents should be as important as the Governor’s own safety.
